Lea responds

Dear Makkre,

I did not say that. I remember perfectly what I said, and its meaning is different. Do not use my words against me. I hope you understand that what I choose to teach my child is not of your concern.

While I permit you to write to her, I hope you do not encourage foolish ideas of wandering in the wild as you would. It is different for you and her: you are a grown man, but she is still a young child. I hope that you can temper what you write such that she will not have the urge to go and see for herself. Let your letters be a window to the world for Aelise in this home, where she is safe and protected. It is for her sake and mine I ask of you to do me this favour.

Yours,

Lea
